Overview

The Inca JUNGLE to Machu Picchu trail through the rainforest is a new route, it is a mixed trip full of adventure with bicycles (INCA JUNGLE) and hiking along an original Inca trail recently discovered only visited by our customers, during the trip we will have the opportunity to visit Inca ruins, The first day descends an approximate of 80 km of distance starting from (Open Malaga 4316 msnm). Until reaching the Santa María rainforest (1200 masl) this is one of the most amazing and exciting trips to Machupicchu, Inka jungle is one of the most beautiful routes to reach the lost city of the Inkas.

Itinerary

01: Cusco – Ollantaytambo – Abra Málaga – Santa Maria:

We will pick you up from your hotel and take you through the Sacred Valley, where we will arrive to the small and picturesque town of Ollantaytambo. Here you can buy things for the trip that you may have forgotten.

Our private transport will take us to a greater height until arriving at the Pass of Malaga and of marks to 4,325 m. Or 14,000 feet. We will go a little more and then the guide will give you some instructions on the route, the bikes and the use of the equipment.

We ride a bike for over 1000 meters on a track 80 km similar to that of Coroico (Bolivia). From the mountains we will reach the jungle by the end of the day. On the way we stopped to take our lunch near an Inka site called Wamanmarka. This place will be a good introduction to Machu Picchu.

Along the way you can see the landscape changing rapidly until you reach the jungle near the small town of Santa Maria.

Once we get there in the afternoon you will have time to relax. Here we have our first night in a hostel. (BL, D).

  • Biking distance Inca Jungle to Machu Picchu: 65km 40mi
  • Biking time: 3.5 to 4 hour approximately.
  • Climate: cold at the beginning of the biking and very hot in the night.
  • Maximum Altitude: 4350m 14271ft.
  • Minimum Altitude: 1430m 4691ft.

Day 02: Santa Maria – Santa Rosa – Camino Inca Jungle – CocalmayoHot Springs-Santa Teresa:

A full day trek starts after breakfast drives to the city of Santa Rosa.

After this village we will get into the jungle by adopting an old Inca road (Q apaqñan) that has been almost forgotten. Walking will make you feel like an explorer. Part of this trail is very narrow. Along the way we will be in the beautiful jungle and with a little luck we will see parrots and monkeys. There are beautiful landscapes to photograph with different types of plants and, finally, we will meet the local population.

After lunch you can enjoy the hot springs of Cocalmayo on the way to Santa Teresa. When we arrived in Santa Teresa we stayed here the second night at another hostel with hot water and private bath. There will be time to relax while we wait for dinner. (B, L, D).

Santa Teresa – Lucmabamba – Camino Inca Jungle -Llactapata – Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu pueblo):

After a delicious breakfast we continued our trek going to Aguas Calientes. Driving the first part, near Lucmabamba, we begin our trek on another Inca Trail (Qapaqñan) which has the beauty of not being too long discovered (which has been discovered in 2003). From this jungle trail, we will visit the archaeological remains of Llactapata and from there we will see the majestic citadel of Machu Picchu from behind, the main sacred mountains to Huaynapicchu, Putucusi and the snowy Salkantay.

After our lunch we will begin our descent towards the hydroelectric power station where we will take the train to the city of Aguas Calientes.

In this city you will have time to rest, explore the city on your own or go to the thermal baths.

Night in a hostel with private bathroom and hot water shower (B, BL).

  • Climate: hot in the day and warm in the night.
  • Hiking time: 6 hour approximately.
  • Maximum Altitude: 2050m 6725ft.

Minimum Altitude: 1430m 4691ft.

Machupicchu – Cusco:

This last day you have to get up early in the morning at 5:00 am to have breakfast and then go to take the bus to the archaeological site of Machu Picchu. Inside the guide page will take you around to show and explain everything you want about this beautiful area.

You will have plenty of free time to explore the ruins of Machu Picchu on your own or try to climb the Huayna Picchu mountain as well. In the afternoon we take the bus to Aguas Calientes and from there take the Ollantaytambo train. In Ollantaytambo a transportation will be waiting to take us back to Cusco where we finished this fantastic trip. (B).

  • Shuttle to Cusco: 3 hour by train and bus from Aguas Calientes.
