The enigmatic lagoon of Urcos, where the stories say that the last Inca ordered to take all the gold of the Empire so that it would not be looted by the Spanish; the Pomacanchis Lagoon, Acopia, Asnaqocha and Pampamarca.
After a trip of 3 hours and 30 minutes we will arrive at the town of “Quehue” located at (3,600 masl.), which is a peasant community, where the famous Inca bridge of “Q’eswachaka” is located. This magnificent work is the result of the knowledge of the Incas and is still practiced by the inhabitants of the area, the Inca bridge of “Queswachaca” is built on the majestic Apurimac River, located in the province of Canas.
The material from which this bridge is made is ichu (straw) and due to the climate of the Andes, it deteriorates, so it is rebuilt annually.
How is the Inca Bridge of Queshuachaca built?
The reconstruction is in charge of the peasant communities of Perccaro, Huinchi and Qqewe. The dimension of the bridge is 33 m. long and 1.20 m. wide, the material used is only straw (Ichu), the women are in charge of braiding the straw and the men of laying the bridge.
In the afternoon we will return to Cusco, but the road has a surprise for us, at the height of the community of Hampatura are the impressive caves of Ccarañahui or Q’arañahui which is located at 3,900 meters above sea level.
Visit to the caves of Ccarañahui
These caves are fantastic caverns of marine sedimentary material, their chemical composition is calcium hypochlorite, which due to the constant dripping resulted in the formation of impressive stalagmites and stalactites, which curiously took on the shape of a puma and condor, the cave has thousands of years old and in the background we can appreciate a mysterious lagoon. Legend has it that the Incas went to the cave to communicate spiritually with their Gods.
Finally we will return to Cusco, therefore, in this way we finish the Tour to the Inca bridge of Queshuachaca
